Lure fishing tips...

To start with, I must expersize, balanced tackle is a must when is comes to lure, or fly fishing.

A 7ft 6in to 9ft lure rod, with a casting weight of 10-50g, would be a good choice to start you off.

Note: When fishing light or heavy lures for pike, or when fishing for other species of predatory fish, I use different terminal tackle and rods to that shown in the diagram below.

TIPS TIPS TIPS TIPS TIPS

Always use a wire trace if pike are present in the water that you're fishing.

Always carry a pair of 8-12in (20-30cm) long nose forceps.
A long nosed pair of pliers.
A pair of handheld bolt croppers.

Carry a large landing net and an unhooking mat.

Set your reel clutch to slip at a sensible 'fish pulling' pressure.
Pressuring a fish to the bank, or boatside, can cause it serious damage.
My advice is, take your time getting fish to the net - but don't take too long!

If you have a problem landing or unhooking a fish, don't be afraid to ask for help.

Remember: Never keep a fish out of water longer than you would like to be held under it!!
