Tips For Pike..

When dead bait fishing it can be a good idea to inject your baits with an attractant. I use pilchard, herring, aniseed, and various other enhancers - of oil and non-oil types. I have found that concoctions tend to produce far better results for me. Whatever my concoction, it always has plenty of aniseed in!

When paternostering dead baits, I like to use one of my sound chambered paternoster floats to call pike in to the bait. There's no two ways about it, sound waves (vibration waves) do attract pike to bait/lure. Lure fishing at night, using highly vibratory lures, has, without doubt, helped no end re. the capture of many of my twenty pound plus pike.

When dead baiting in clear water conditions, I attach a small cork ball to my end hook. The cork ball floats the dead bait 18in up off bottom and makes the bait more visual to pike passing close by.

When trolling baits, I always lip hook them. That may sound obvious to most of you, but some new anglers to boat fishing do make the mistake of rear hooking, or dorsal hooking, trolled baits - which can cause awful line twist.

Tips For Perch...

Perch love worms. To catch big perch I use two very small treble hooks loaded with enhanced lob worms.

Strong curry flavoured and ultra spicy flavored lobs tend to get the best results on the waters that I fish.

Lures can also produces good results - but presentation is vital to success.

I have found that lures in the 3-5 gram range tend to produce best.

My son Michael, now aged 23, loves perch fishing with ultra light lures. He does as well today on the ultra light sut-up as he did 14 years ago - i.e. when the 'Art of Lure Fishing' was first ublished.

I have found small flies get the best results, 'for me', during the summer months.

Tips For Chub...

Bread and cheese are very good baits for chub - as are nice big black juicy slugs.

Chub are also tempted by small-medium size artificial lures. 'Big S' type plugs produce very well on shallow waters - as do deep diving silver plugs on deeper waters. Surface lure fishing for chub during daylight hours, or in the dead of night, during the summer months, is brilliant fun.

Chub are not in the slightest bit weary at night - give it a go!!!
